Benha University Team Qualifies for the Final Stage of Sensor X Challenge 2026

Benha University has announced the qualification of one of its research projects for the final stage of the Sensor X Challenge 2026, a national competition dedicated to developing innovative smart sensing technologies.

The Sensor X Challenge 2026 is organized by the Innovators Support Fund (ISF) with the participation of students from Egyptian universities and institutes. The competition aims to encourage the development of innovative sensor-based solutions across a range of applications, including healthcare, agriculture, industry, energy, environment, smart cities, and robotics.

The qualified project is titled:

“SoftSense Robotics: Smart Soft Tactile Sensor for Robotic Contact Force Control”

The project is presented by Eng. Mohamed Nasser Abdelmonem Ibrahim Shaalan, Teaching Assistant at the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Benha University.

The research and supervision team includes:

  • Prof. Ahmed El-Assal — Main Supervisor
  • Assoc. Prof. Mahmoud Magdy — Co-Supervisor
  • Dr. Muhammed Gaafar — Co-Supervisor

The SoftSense Robotics project focuses on the development of a flexible smart tactile sensor for robotic contact-force control. The proposed technology aims to provide robots with reliable tactile information during physical interaction, enabling more adaptive and precise control of contact forces in robotic applications.

The project reflects the research team's efforts in the fields of soft sensing, tactile perception, robotics, and intelligent force control, with the objective of translating research outcomes into practical technological solutions.

The qualification for the final stage of the competition represents an important milestone for the project and highlights the research and innovation capabilities of students and researchers at Benha University.

The team will continue developing and validating the proposed system in preparation for the final stage of the Sensor X Challenge 2026.
